| Graveyard - Outside Dole Hall |
| Olivet College, December 13th, 2008 |
|
MPI was honored to be invited to investigate reports of unusual activity at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. The investigation covered several areas of the campus, including a cemetery on the grounds near Dole Residence Hall where over the years many people have reported having experienced unusual phenomena and activity. That night while one of the investigative teams was undertaking their shift on the graveyard grounds, they attracted the attention of a patrolling Sheriff's deputy who stopped to speak with the team. After quickly determining that the team had the proper permission to be on the site, the deputy spent a few more moments discussing various subjects with the investigators, and discussing his own beliefs on the paranormal. This incident however illustrates a point that many beginning investigators overlook or choose to ignore. When investigating any location, particularly at night, be sure to obtain permission from the owner or proper agency before conducting your investigation. If you do not, you can quickly find yourself on the wrong side of local law enforcement agencies. Areas such as graveyards and parks, which can seem to be public areas, are not necessarily so. Do not risk being arrested simply for investigating's sake - it's simply not worth it. Do yourself and the community at large a favor by acting professional and obtaining permission before investigating an area. If it is a site you truly want to explore, then it will be worth the effort. |
