The main barracks inside the star fortress at Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit, Michigan. Home to a garrison of as many as 500 soldiers, the massive barracks building is, along with the powder magazine, the only free-standing structure to be located within the fort proper. All other barracks, officers quarters, medical and jail facilities, were located on the grounds outside the star fort, so named for its four-pointed profile when seen from above. The barracks are constructed of locally quarried limestone which, according to some theories, has properties that may help contribute to paranormal activity.
